Riverside City College Communication Studies 9:Interpersonal Communication Star Romero Skill Builder Journals Student Learning Outcomes: Identify communication foundations include models, myths, principles and purpose. Evaluate the role of listening in dyadic communication in various contexts. Analyze the use of verbal and nonverbal communication in dyadic communication in various contexts. Analyze the role of perception of self and others while appraising the significant of self- concept/self-esteem, including values, in dyadic communication in various contexts. Critically assess the impact of emotion management in relationships in various contexts. Analyze theories of dyadic communication (Self-Disclosure, Impression Management, Stage Model, and Dialectic Perspective) and synthesize the theories to evaluate relationship development maintenance and termination. Analyze conflict in two-person interaction and identify appropriate styles/methods of conflict management in various contexts. The following is a list of the topics for the skill builder journals for the entire semester. Please note, although these topics are given out ahead of time, you MUST be in class to turn them in to receive credit for these assignments. You are NOT permitted to email these assignments to me unless I specifically request it of you ahead of time. Please note the page requirements for each journal and read all directions carefully. If you have any questions, please email me and/or visit the Center for Communication Excellence CCE (AD 125) for help from other instructors as well. All journals will be graded on completeness of assignment, understanding of the concepts and grammar/spelling. All journals should be typed double spaced in 12 point font. JOURNAL 1 Chapter 1/A First Look at Interpersonal Communication 3 Pages 1. Interview two people you communicate with on a regular basis. Be sure that you have a different relationship with each (i.e. one might be a family relationship and the other a work/professional relationship). Please have each person rate your communication skills based on this questionnaire. Note: you will need to print out two (2) copies of this questionnaire one for each person you interview. 2. Based on their feedback and after analyzing their perceptions of your communication competence, what would you say is your personal strength and weakness of communication? How do you feel about this person’s perception of your communication competence?
