“MANIFESTO OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY” –MARX AND ENGELS -All the powers of old Europe have entered into a holly alliance to exorcise the spectre of Communism that is haunting Europe: Pope and Czar, Metternich and Guizot, French Radicals and German police-spies. I. Bourgeois and Proletarians a. The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles. The modern bourgeois society that has sprouted from the ruins of feudal society has not done away with class antagonisms—it has but established new classes, new conditions of oppression, new forms of struggle in place of the old ones. But the epoch of the bourgeoisie, however, possess a distinctive feature: it has simplified the class antagonisms into two great hostile camps—Bourgeoisie and Proletariat. b. The discovery of America paved the way for modern industry, which established the world-market that has helped develop commerce, navigation, and communication by land. As this development expanded, the bourgeoisie also expanded in proportion to commerce, eventually leaving behind completely the classes handed down from the middle Ages. Thus we see how the modern bourgeoisie is itself the product of a long course of development, of a series of revolutions in the modes of production and of exchange. c. The bourgeoisie has: c.i. through its exploitation of the world-market given a cosmopolitan character to production and consumption in every country. c.ii. drawn all nations into civilization through improvements in production (i.e. cheap commodities) and calls all nations to do the same.
