Motivation and Needs - Motive o An internal force that stimulates to you to behave o Needs are one set of factors that influence whether we are motivated o Each person has a unique set of needs, some innate, some acquired Hierarchy of needs Need - Self actualization - Esteem - Social - Safety - Physiological Product - Golf Clubs - Luxury car - Pendant - Tires - Breakfast cereal Promotional Appeal - “Time is to enjoy” - “Be in control of the road” - “Show her you care” - “bounces off hazards” - “The natural energy source” Physiological level – Snickers, Smart Water Safety – ADT, Security Social- Alcohol Esteem – BMW, Mercedes Self Actualization – Army, Marines Culture - Tangible items (art, literature, buildings) - Intangible concepts (history, laws, morals) that define a group of people or a way of life - Norms – boundaries of behavior established by culture - Subcultures Interpersonal Influences - Family Demographics - Statistical, personal, social, and economic characteristics of a population o Age o Occupatin o Education o Income o Race and ethnicity o Gender
