-1Mai 1 Henry Mai ENG 1010 Instructor: Joy Burnett 3 rd April 2008 Deception "The rules of fair play do not apply in love and war" said John Lyly, a Renaissance English poet and playwright from the year 1578.(Famous Quotations) We used this quote in many modern situations, similarly meaning “All’s fair in love and war.” In the books, The Kite Runner , by Khaled Hosseini and Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo, shows greatly on how people from war experiences either by showing the effect of fighting in the war or leaving your country cause of war. Both novels takes place in different eras of the worlds history, one being in 1970’s with the Soviet-Afghan war and the other in 1939 World War II. In these novels, they have many different events and situations to make them completely showing how man kind progressed in the years but they have many similarities as well, such as, “All’s fair in love and war.” meaning in both novels had deception that prevented from knowing the truth for the greater good of their wellbeing. Also another similar theme they shared is that they had to make sacrifices in order to get rid of themselves of misfortune and at sometimes causing even more bad than good. In 1979, a major conflict between USSR known as today, Russia, and Afghanistan, caused an uprising of the Taliban, many of Afghanistan people fled to America in hopes of a better future and leaving the problems behind.(Hayes,32) This caused Afghanistan to economically become worst, causing the people to starve and have no place to live.
