The midterm (printout) is due in my mailbox (Room 117 Physics Bldg.) or under my door (during the weekend) by 4pm on Tue. Oct. 18th, stapled, elegantly written, on one side of each page only, with printouts of all figures, commented code, and must contain the reaffirmation of the Duke community standard. Otherwise, it will be returned ungraded. Print out the exam, write your name at the top, as well as a confirmation you adhere to the Duke standard. Write the answers on the printout. You have 4 hours of time to complete the exam, counted from the time you turn this first page. Turn in the exam when the time is up. No use of books, internet, notes, help (electronic, e.g. Matlab help, or in person) is permitted. All statements should be proved, all steps justified. The clarity and completeness of your arguments will count as much as their correctness. Duke policies apply with no exceptions to cases of incapacitating short-term illness, or for officially recognized religious holiday. The submission of the midterm requires numerical work on a computer, and should include the fol- lowing: printout of the code used to solve the problems, its inputs and outputs.
