Unformatted text preview: CISE IAB Fall 2008 Agenda Room E404 [Department's Large Conference Room] 08:00 -- 08:45 am Breakfast and Sign-in, Room 404- 8 attendees, 7 companies. 08:45 -- 09:30 am Dean's Statement Dean Khargonekar- 15th in the country on PhD ratio- Undergraduate engineering had an increase o ME is now almost = EE + CE.- Other strong majors – IE, ChemE.- Do not expect undergrad output to increase. University is lowering the number of transfers and admits.- Research down by about 3%. NIH funding is down. o Concern about both Govt. and Industry funding availability in near future- Overall funding for college is down. o Gov. just asked all agencies to submit budget which is 10% below what is currently running. o University will make big push to increase undergrad tuition- Dr. K was to retire (to research position) by August but was asked to stay on. Will play it by ear.- College is ranked 24 th in nation.- On recent visit to OSU he noted that their budget is $400M more than UF. o Our tuition is $3700, OSU is like $10,000. o We are 75 th out of 75 of public universities on tuition cost....
