Microscopic studies of the primary tissues of the body especially tissues of the reproductive and digestive systems as well as the mammary gland. Lectures and laboratory practical with the use of slides and demonstrations.30h(t) 45h (p)elective . Course Description This course is designed to introduce the students to detailed microscopic anatomy and histology of farm animals, anatomical differences as it relates to the systems, and variation effects of these differences.

Course Justification Farm animals, laboratory animals and poultry are diverse in nature. The histology of these animals reveals certain characteristics that help in understanding of the animal systems. Course Objectives The objectives of this course include: (i) To understand the procedure of animal dissection. (ii) To describe the basic histological differences of animal tissues. (iii) To understand the basis for these differences and to explain how the differences and similarities of the animal tissues can help to gain a better understanding of farm animals. Course Requirements Apart from normal attendance of classes, students will be expected to read widely so as to be able to participate and also attempt short class quiz during normal lecture hours. Students will also be engaged in practical session and also be involved with the use of slides on some reproductive processes in selected livestock species. Students will also be expected to submit a term paper on assigned topics. Students are expected to attend 75% of the classes before they can sit for the examination.
