Music Appreciation October 31, 2007 Assignment of Baroque Music Vocal Music Orfeo, “Tu se morta” This piece of homophonic opera is composed by Claudio Monteverdi in 1607. I like it much! The first time when I was listening to it, I had no idea what the lyrics were about. After reading the text in the book, I knew the song is about Orpheus’s sadness after losing his beautiful wife Eurydice. Not only the melody is a piece of art, the carefully designed lyrics are also art. In text, it is called word painting. I like this piece, too. The beginning of it is quite inspiring. The most attracting part is the singing of the bird! In addition, it is performed by the violin!
