Unformatted text preview: ENV 6015 Membrane Solution to Problem Set 1. A membrane pilot study using one spiral wound membrane with a surface area of 70 ft 2 was conducted on a ground water source. The results of the study are given in Table 1. The data is the permeate concentration vs. percent recovery and operating pressure. The feed water quality is also given. Construct isopleths for the % rejection vs.% recovery and pressure drop for each solute. Comment on the effect of pressure drop and percent recovery on the rejection with respect to the diffusion theory. Calculate the mass transfer coefficients for both water and each solute. Table 1.
