Why does the film maker say he needs to make a film? -people find sampling music like Girl talk is illegal so it is a “war against ideas”, he loves girl talk -war ground is on the internet -uses internet to communicate with each other and transform/connect culture -process more important than product because people are the ones creating it Why did people declare a war on remix? - people that owned the previous culture being sold declared war -these people see their ideas as their own property that they want money off of their product -“copy left” want to share ideas…”copy right” wants to keep ideas for themselves -“past want to control future”…future is becoming less free Examples where artists were borrowing from past, how were they borrowing from past? -girl talk samples music from the past -led zeppelin/muddy waters you need love Understand public domain -freely being able to build upon the past -being able to sing happy birthday would cost you money b/c of WB licensing the song rather
