The paper “Music in “The Dead”” is a paper that argues music is constantly mentioned in the short story as a way to characterize the characters in the story and to establish a line between the illusion of the music and how people use it for their own lives. At first when I read this thesis I was confused as to what the “internal illusion of music” meant. After reading your paper I see how the second point of the paper relates solely to Gabriel while the first point relates to all the characters. In this respect, the thesis is present in all the paragraphs and argued throughout. I thought this was a very interesting paper topic because I actually did notice how music was so prevalent in the paper but I could not understand its importance. I think your most interesting point was the sound that the reader makes with the last line. I also thought that the fact that you used Riquelme to further your point strengthened an argument that is very in depth and one that obviously cannot be picked up just from reading the text at face value.
