MG635 Mfg Strategy/Sept-Nov. 2010 MG635- Manufacturing (Operations) Strategy Theme : Traditionally, decisions in the areas of manufacturing have been made on narrow, tactical grounds, by functional specialists, with little attention to strategy. Few companies have regarded manufacturing as a source of competitive advantage. A new perspective has emerged, sparked by global competitors who entered and then dominated a wide range of industries. This course is designed to explore this view and respond to fundamental questions like: What are the links between manufacturing and competitive success? This is not a course about tools (unlike MG611 and MG612), rather this course will enable students to apply the principles learned in OM courses in analyzing and evaluating an operations environment as well as in formulating, developing and implementing a manufacturing strategy within an organization.
