A Rubric Toolkit for Agricultural Science and Technology Education Rubrics represent a set of guidelines for assessment of student work. In agricultural science and technology, teachers and students have ample opportunities to embrace the application of rubrics. Within the four main agricultural program components, classrooms, directed laboratories, super- vised agricultural experience programs, and leadership opportunities associated with FFA events, rubrics can be used to provide authentic assessments to supplement or replace traditional grading systems. The true value of rubrics comes with sharing beforehand with students the scoring criteria and tasks or outcomes that they are expected to master. Student projects, laboratory experiences, classroom performances, supervised agricultural experience programs, record books, and work- based learning activities are only a few of the learning situations in which rubrics may be useful in defining student expectations, determining student outcomes and successes, and, ultimately, improving student performance. The following rubric toolkit contains suggested rubric formats and criteria that teachers can use to meet their local education agency grading standards. For instance descriptive criteria are omit- ted for the various levels in the following chart with the intent that educators will establish their own descriptors.
