Religion/ Philosophy Roles (7) Religion and philosophy grew in popularity among this time period. Christianity, Catholicism, Islam. Due to cross cultural exchange, religion spread among all people. In China, the Confucian traditions were challenged when political and social influences came from the west. Jesuits were Chinese who incorporated Confucianism with Christianity. The Europeans acquainted the Chinese with Roman Catholicism.
