Andrew Tran 323366 Per. #5 Analyze and discuss the different approaches which Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson took in their response to progressivism . Progressivism- the utilization of the government to help ordinary American citizen from corruption, politically, economically, and socially (ie. Reforms) Mainly to help benefit the ordinary “Joe or Mary” by providing opportunities like free education and etc. -U.S world power-imperialism. Industrial revolution led to Spanish American War. Gilded Age- life was good. -Professional office workers, social workers, educators and gov’t employees = progressivism. -Liberalism- tax to help middle class -Most power at federal level. Industrialists – oil, steel, railroads, food, banking, communication, other transportation, shipping, petroleum, and gov’t control. -Abuses of capital and possessions, factories, roads and etc. -Stronger gov’t presence Economic: -Wealth controlled by upper class. ½ U.S wealth in only 1% of the American population (off balanced). -Lassiez Faire – gov’t stays out of business
