Adam Bottorff 3/9/10 Sociology Summary Nickel and Dimed Nickel and Dimed, written by Barbary Enrenreich, is a passage that shows how difficult it is for working class people to obtain a normal life. With the cost of living, food and expenses, it is almost impossible for people to work and live a happy and safe life. She does a research on women, and puts herself in a position to work and obtain enough income to pay rent, to eat and medical bills. Barbary finds out very quick, that living in poverty is very hard, and almost impossible. As she studied the low wage workforce, she had many questions that she wanted answered. She wanted to know how these women were able to make a life out of living when they make only $7 an hour. She started her research down in Key West, with no job, home or any bright future. She already found out that getting a semi- decent place to live was impossible. She ended up renting a $500 per month room, which would end up thirty miles from her work.
