Christine Van Pelt 10/28/11 Philosophy 1308 Reading Response Essay 7 According to Hursthouse, why is choosing to have an abortion sometimes not the wrong decision, but the right one? Explain Hursthouse’s view by discuss particular virtues/vices, cases, and considerations that she uses in developing and defending her view. Why, according to Hursthouse, are guilt and remorse over an abortion sometimes appropriate even when having an abortion was the right decision? Hursthouse knows there are some situations were abortion is not the wrong decision but the right one. She talks about certain communities in which “life is a great deal tougher” than ours. They look upon human life, death, parenthood, and family relationships differently than we do. They fend for themselves for survival when they are very young. In these communities, when they do certain abortions, Hursthouse thinks that it should not be thought as callous or heartless.
