Ch14 Group communication Defining the basci qualities of groupness 1. Interaction among its members - task interaction: Communication and behavior that revolves around some task which is important to the group - socio-emotional: Describes interaction that revolves around the social functions or relational aspoects of a group, and that helps to maintian a positive group climate 2. Goal-orientation 3. Structure: A relatively stable pattern of relationships among the members - group roles: The parts played by specific discusses, formally states, or in some other way transparently determines what the roles and rules which apply to group members are - norms: Standards dscribing acceptable or expected behaciors 4. Cohesion: The degree of unity or 'we-ness' that exists among its members - interactioanl cohesion: The efficiency of collective efforts by group members to reach group goals - perceptual cohesion: Based on individual member's feelings of solidarity with other members
