Information Sheet: Earning Extra Credit via Research Participation Overview As announced in class, all COM 101 students have the option of earning extra credit points towards their course grading total by earning research credit in excess of the 5 hours of research credit needed to satisfy the course research requirement. Earning excess research credit via research participation or the research alternates can potentially complement the existing extra credit alternatives available to you via the application portion of your grade —i.e. attendance at more than 7 in-class application activities, optional element on a future written assignment. Extra credit earned by research participation is calculated by converting excess research credit beyond the course requirement into extra credit points at the rate of 10 points per hour up to the extra credit cap.
