Cortex size ranged from 578 mg to 751 mg, approximately 30% larger cortex size. B) Two rats were taken from each litter to create a completely randomized design for the experiment (specifically eliminating genetic background variable) promoting comparability. C) Pairing is an essential feature to help remove potential compounding factors such as genetic background. Each pair of rats is as identical in biological aspects as possible allowing the main variable to be treatment.
