Unformatted text preview: Andrew Lazarow SOM 122 M004 Team Delta Force The role of a manager involves four major functions which include planning, organizing, leading, and controlling (Williams, 2010). The book Good to Great by Jim Collins explains how important a great manager is to a companys success and what is involved in being a great manager. Although every factor in becoming a great manager is important, some functions are more important than the others. The most important function in becoming a great manager is leading. According to Williams to be a good leader a manager needs to [inspire] and [motivate] workers to work hard to achieve organizational goals (p. 5). A successful manager will make the employee feel more connected to the company which will improve the efficiency of their work (Collins, 2001). If every worker believes that their job is important to the companys success then the manager was successful and efficiency will be high. If not, an excellent leader will take the failure personally successful and efficiency will be high....
