Andrew Lazarow WRT 205 Essay 1 Summer vacation was put in place when children were needed during the summer months to help with the family’s crops. Lately there has been a debate that summer vacation is detrimental to students, especially minorities, which people believe is causing an achievement gap. However, summer vacation is a time for students to be able to participate in activities that school does not leave time for. Children need more than their basic Math, Science, English and Social Studies classes to be able to succeed in life. Summer vacation is an experience that everyone in the United States has had. It is a chance for young minds to go out and explore, while teachers get a much needed break. Increasing the school year would also take away opportunities for older students to be able to gain experience from jobs and internships that could help them for the rest of their life There are also lifelong benefits to camping traditions that are clear to me as a person with 11 years of camp experience. Activities such as archery or macramé are not always offered in the basic education

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
