Andrew Lazarow MIS 325 2/2/10 Assignment 1 I chose to read the article Now at Disney: It's a data center world after all. This article written by Robert Lemos talks about Disney’s Epcot Center’s new feature, an exhibit, called Smarter Planet, which was built by Disney and IBM. This exhibit allows visitors to create avatars and go explore our world’s history of computing. At the same time the visitors can look at the server that is powering the exhibit that they are using. The whole experience shows businesses how modernizing IT can save companies money. IBM’s new scalable modular data center is an example of how modernizing saves companies money. The data center infrastructure efficiency at Disney’s Smarter Planet is at 70 percent, meaning that 70 cents of IT productivity is delivered for every dollar spent on the data center. The article then concludes by explaining how these modernizations in IT not only save the company energy which in turn saves them money, it also saves them time because the program is more efficient. I think that this is a great idea for Disney, IBM and the world. Disney is now creating a new exhibit with the help from IBM and is keeping up with todays trend of going green. IBM is being advertised to millions of people who are visiting Disneys Epcot Center and for every person who decides that to go along with IBMs new scalable modular data center IBM will profit and the world will be more energy efficient. At the same time educating consumers and business people could increase efficiency in information technology all together. http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9150798/Now_at_Disney_It_s_a_data_center_world_af ter_all?taxonomyId=154&pageNumber=2...
