WMST 101 4/5/11 Continuum: how we see women’s bodies Ad/sexual harassment/ battering/rape/porn Rights: Harassment- what rights do women have in the workplace? Household (battering)? social sphere (rape?), depiction (pornography)? Extend rights to discussion of reproductive rights How have women’s bodies been positioned historically in relation to the law? Women vs. fetus- importance of context: women’s rights The issue from a women’s studies perspective: o Place women at center of issue o Emphasizes a range of choices Look at women’s reproductive rights as: o Individual rights o Women’s rights/historically o Group rights/ social justice ^Put all together in woman studies context Pro choice position Puts women first, values our health and welfare first Gives all women choices regarding pregnancy- to terminate or carry out pregnancy, seeks widest range of choices possible It does NOT take away any rights, only gives them
