11/28/11 How to Write for Public Relations ∙      Very similar to journalism style o   Many times when writing, the objective is for the newspaper to take press  release as written and publish it. o   Press release: maintain control §  Write with goal in mind?how you want to the client to be portrayed §  Control the good and potential negative effects that could be brought up in  press release. §  Should not exceed two pages §  Editor cuts from bottom (least important info) up (most important info) o   What are questions in first paragraph that need to be answered? §  Who, what, where, when, why (how) §  Press release is the first look a journalist has at your story, fail on first look, its  done o   First thing you should see in article? §  Headline: want it to be 10 words or less ú  Grab attention
