December 7,2008- NBC announces Jay Leno’s new prime time show It was a dismal failure on all levels o -NBC NY ratings pre-leno: 2.5 Leno : 1.1 o -created controversy with Conan and bad P.R. o -led to NBC’s overall ratings freefall the death of network TV as we know it the most pervasive American medium is gone o -cheaper is better -glut of reality TV -almost no one is watching -influence is almost non-existent The idea of making moves of what your audience wants and based on money, showed network television to be an empty vessel of more profit gouging The Bottom Line has always been the bottom line 1953- Development of color television Introduced NTSC standard of 525 lines (Worst color TV standard in the world) Driven by David Sarnoff’s attempts to control the market
