Interpretive Framework B2: Structural Marxist. The second Marxist perspective that we are going to study tries to address and resolve some of the problems associated with the instrumental approach. In this respect it is a more complex form of Marxism that seeks to distance itself from Functionalist forms of explanation whilst retaining the central Marxist ideas of class conflict, political and ideological domination and the like. Organizing Principles of the Structural Marxist Framework. Unlike their instrumental counterparts, Structural Marxists have developed a more- complex view of the nature of the class structure in modern societies. Whereas instrumentalists tend to see class in the "traditional" way (upper, middle, working classes arranged in a hierarchical manner, one on top of the other.
