Morales AP Final Project React Paper My sculpture displays a single sphere yet represents both the sun and the moon. This duality is crucial throughout the year. The sun represents hope, reason, and reality whereas the moon symbolizes fear, obscurity, and illusion. For example, in O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey Into Night , Mary Tyrone progressively changes as the day goes on. In the morning, she is very cheerful and vivacious. However, because she is still haunted by her past—death of her second son Eugene, morphine addiction, and a desolate lifestyle—when night approaches, she loses her reason and indulges in illusion to escape reality. George and Martha came home from an evening party and had invited some guests. However, throughout the play, they are either drinking or blatantly castigating each other. But because George and Mary continue to engage in outrageous “games” of explicit insults, they eventually unravel the truth: they had imagined a child to bring the couple some sense of unity.
