Chapter 8 COLOR Color- a concept or human interpretation of the neutral impulses transmitted to the brain from the normal eye when it is simulated by various imbalances of visible radiant energy 1. External occurrence 2. Internal sensation 3 Aspects External Color: 1. Hue 2. Value 3. Intensity HUE: -Pure Hue -Nothing added -as it appears on the color wheel or spectrum -Analogous Hue -Adjacent to each other on color wheel -Complimentary Hue -Opposite each other on color wheel VALUE: -The lightness or darkness of a hue -adding black or white -Achromatic -neutrals -black, white, gray INTENSITY: -Saturation, purity or vividness -Brightness or dullness of a hue -Add complement -High=bright -Low=dull COLOR LANGUAGE: Primary colors: BLUE RED YELLOW -Prime, fast, basic hue -Can mix to create all other hues BUT no other hues can combine to create primary Secondary (Binary) Colors: VIOLET ORANGE GREEN -Equal mixtures of STRENGTHS of 2 primaries Tertiary Colors: Rules: 1. Complement of a primary is always a secondary 2. Complement of a secondary ALWAYS a primary
