Think of them as entrances or doorways to information on the Web. - They are the starting place for people to begin their cyber journey . - They provide a means of searching for information as well as free email , photo , storage , internet chat , shopping , and directory services . - Not to be confused with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) Virtual communities - A place where people can congregate (in cyberspace), chat, and share ideas and common interests - Hard to define - these communities can be quite different from one another o For example, some like MySpace are social networking sites where users can share photos, journals, and music while socializing o Others like craigslist are more business-related Gaming - The internet and the web have enabled interactive game play o Can game with people all over the world - Projected to continue growing It’s a Lucrative Business - Portals , virtual communities , and
