Purdue University-West Lafayette Aeronautics and Astronautics AAE 352: Aerospace Structural Analysis I Fall Semester 2011 2 Topics: Course Content This course provides an introduction to structural concepts and fundamental analysis techniques that support aircraft and spacecraft design and development. The course begins with a review of fundamental structural mechanics of truss structures. These techniques are used to analyze and design simple structures that have aerospace requirements. Design terminology and inertia load concepts are studied to understand the origin or requirements and loads. Next, the fundamentals of matrix methods analysis, the core of finite element analysis used in all major aerospace structures work is introduced. These methods are used to introduce the concept of thermal loading, a major load for spacecraft structures. Materials selection is a major part of aircraft structural design.
