Biology 1006: 4/28/2010 Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH): o Hypothalamus- monitors fluid level in body o How much water is lost in urine and kidneys o Ethonal- reduces amount of ADH Oxytocin: strong effect on smooth muscles o initiates labor o Pitocin- given by the doctor to induce labor (a form of oxytocin) o Milk let down in flow (after birth)- oxytocin causes milk to flow in the mother’s breast after birth Antidiuretic hormone and oxytocin hormone are from posterior pituitary Anterior pituitary gland produces 9 hormones which control out body Hormones from the Anterior Pituitary: o Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH)- in female the target organ Is the ovary results in Ova eggs in male the target organ is the testes results in sperm o Leutenizing Hormone (LH) In female targets the ovary result in estrogen In female targets the ovary results in testosterone o Prolactin- Milk formation In birds initiates courtship, nest building, egg laying, and care of the
