Women’s Studies: 2/24/10 Biological Determinates (Differences): determines how society expects women to act o Takes our biological difference and place qualities that attribute to that group based on those biological differences o Because you’re a woman, all you were good for was having children o Your biology is your destiny Not adequate police in the workplace to make sure that women can have a career and a family Nose article: does not like having a large nose, she is Jewish, and even her family wants her to get a nose job so that it is not so prominent on her face Why are the norms of specific body parts so severe? o Nose, breasts, vagina Gloria Steinem “if Men Could Menstruate”: guys would brag about who has the longest period or heaviest flow, asks us to look at the system and how for years science has been using the male body for research even when it is not for male research, congress would begin funding research about the problems that occur during menstruation
