Unformatted text preview: Much of the Pisgah National Forest came from lands that were a part of the Vanderbilts Biltmore Estate near Asheville, NC. Hudson River Valley, NY Bear Mountain-Harriman State Park Pallisades Interstate Park Commission Hudson River Valley Saved in the early 1900s after the state of New York tried to relocate Sing Sing Prison to Bear Mountain. Preservation was led by Union Pacific railroad president E.W. Harriman. Bear Mountain-Harriman State Park became a reality in 1910. Eastern National Trails First section of the Appalachian Trail was open on Oct. 7, 1923 from Bear Mountain to the Delaware Water Gap. National Trails Act - 1968...
