HW 4 Page 1 of 2 Homework 4. Confidence Intervals for Quantitative Variables Conduct data management and analyses 1. Separate the data for physical health into the following 8 new variables: o Separate GENDER into “Male physical/mental health” and “Female physical/mental health” o Separate SMOKER into “Smoker physical/mental health” and “Nonsmoker physical/mental health” o Separate BMIGRP into “Yes overweight physical/mental health” and “No overweight physical/mental health” o Separate EXERCISE into “Yes exercise physical/mental health” and “No exercise physical/mental health” To create new variables : Sort the dataset by the variable of interest (e.g., GENDER) from the “Home” page by clicking on “Sort & Filter,” then “Custom Sort,” and then “My data has headers” Choose the variable you want from the dropdown list for “Sort by,” make sure “Value” and “Smallest to Largest” are showing in the next dropdown lists, and hit ENTER Back at the dataset workbook page, copy and paste the columns for the variable your sorted by (e.g., GENDER) and physical/mental health onto a new workbook page In the next two blank columns, insert the names for the two new variables that will correspond to values “1” and “2” of the variable you sorted by CAREFULLY determine where the data value “1” for the sorted variable starts and stops and copy and paste the corresponding values for PHYS/MENTHLTH into the first new variable column starting on row 2
