«I THE BffiLE AND SCIENCE Dr. Robert H. O'Bannon SECTION ill-- SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH ABOUT CHRISTIAN BEHAVIOR Lesson 1. Divine Directives For Sexual Satisfaction A. GOD CREATED MAN AND HIS SEXUALITY 1. Sexuality- An Important Aspect of Humanity Sexual involvement is perhaps the most intense physical pleasure known to man. The innate drive towards sexual fulfillment transcends all cultures, races, and political ideologies. It is basic to being human. But with this acknowledgment must also come a recognition that it is the one aspect ofman's being that has been most distorted and exploited by Satan, especially in out western society. Because ofthis distortion and exploitation, it is imperative that Christians know the real truth about human sexuality, rather than following the lifestyle ofthe depraved society around us. There are several divine directives related to human sexuality given in the Word God which iffollowed, can greatly enhance the sexual satisfaction we were created to enjoy. First, we must recognize that God is the creator of all things, including man and his sexuality. was God's design, God's plan, God's will. "So God created man in his own image. In the image ofGod created he him, male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, be fruitful, and multiply" (Genesis 1:27-28). Men and women were created differently, but complementary. God did not make a mistake. He knew what he was doing. And after having inspected the first human couple, He made the pronouncement, "Very good." Ifwe accept this truth about our sexuality, that "it is He that hath made us and not we ourselves" (Psalms 100:3) we will be headed in the right direction- a direction that will lead to the conclusion that we can never experience the ultimate in sexual

satisfaction unless we follow "manufacture's instructions." 2. Sexual Fulfillment Reserved For Marriage Part ofthose instructions brings us to a second divine directive: sexual fulfillment is to be experienced only within the bonds ofmarriage- a God ordained social institution between a husband and a wife. "And therefore shall a man leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife, and they shall be one flesh" (Genesis 2:24). God's position on sexual relations outside of marriage is clearly stated in scripture. Our responsibility is to recognize that God has taken this stance, not because he is kill-joy or an old fogey who's not with the times, but because He loves us and wants to help us attain the highest and most lasting pleasure in expressing our sexuality. Contrary to the smut literature and popular magazines cluttering our newsstands, it is the Christian couple living under the Lordship ofJesus Christ who experiences the most in sexual .~ I pleasures. 3. Sex Was Intended by God to Be Pleasurable Third, God intended sexual activity to be a pleasurable experience between a husband and wife and only a husband and wife.
