Reference : Biology: Life on Earth, Audesirk et al., Chapter 30, pp.585-591 Various web sites indicated in this document Part I: Food Intake Record Use the 24 Hour Food Intake Record form to keep a record of your food and drink intake. Written food records will make the process of calculating your nutrient intake easier. The instructions below are provided to assist you in knowing how much detail is needed in your food record in order to make the analysis meaningful. Review the following instructions before starting your food record. Maintain a food intake record for three days. At least one of the three days should be a weekend day since most people eat somewhat differently on weekends. On the days that you record your food intake, eat as you would on any other day. Your food record should reflect your typical daily intake. You will not be graded on what foods you eat, you only need to keep track of what and how much you eat and drink. Include the day and date on the food record. For that days you are recording, write down all the foods and drinks you consume during the entire 24-hour period – from the time you wake up until you go to bed. If you wake up at night and eat or drink, be sure to include those items as well. Carefully estimate the amounts of foods and drinks you consume. Measuring cups and spoons can make this easier to do. Common abbreviations and equivalencies are provided below. Also include the type or method of preparation of the foods and drinks you consume along with brand names if possible. These details will make your analysis easier. You may wish to complete an analysis of the sample foods before you start recording your food intake.
