EGM 6812 Fluid Mechanics 1  Fall 2010
9/22/10, Exam 1 Information
Announcements:
1.
Exam 1 will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 in TBD from TBD.
It will
cover material through boundary conditions and HW #4.
Format:
1.
Bring a pencil, eraser, etc.
DO NOT bring your notes, textbook, calculator, crib sheet, etc.
2.
I anticipate that we will have 24 problems and several shortanswer questions with the points
per problem/question clearly labeled.
This may change.

Definitions of fluid, solid, liquid, gas, continuum assumption, definition of regions
2.
Vector Calculus and Indicial Notation (Ch. 3, Panton)
Definitions/notation, tensor Algebra/Calculus and integral theorems.

Kinematics
(Ch. 4, Panton)
Definitions of dimensionality, Steady/Unsteady, Lagrangian vs. Eulerian Methods of
Description, Substantial/Material Derivative, Streamlines, Streaklines, Pathlines,
Decomposition of Fluid Motion: translation, rotation, strain rate (extension/shear)
