Theories and Natural Laws A hypothesis proposes an explanation for a fairly narrow set of phenomena Theory : a description of the world ( how nature works ) that covers a relatively large number of phenomena and has met many observational and experimental tests and is supported by many lines of evidence Law of Nature : describes what nature does under certain conditions, will predict what will happen if the conditions are met (doesn’t necessarily explain “why”) Often mathematically defined
