HIPPA protects patients’ right by giving the patient complete privacy regarding his or her health as well as  protecting the identity of the patient. The patient is given the right to challenge or correct information in his or  her medical records, place a letter of disagreement, and to inspect and copy medical records.  It also prevents a  doctor from disclosing information that does not need to be given.  The doctor can discuss and disclose  information if it pertains to treatment.  For example, if the patient had a heart attack; the doctor would release
