(2010). Human sexuality in a world of diversity (8 th ed.). Boston, MA: Allyn-Bacon. Additional readings may be announced. Brief Course Description This course examines psychological aspects of human sexuality with emphasis on psychosexual development and behavior. Includes discussion of causative factors and treatment of sexual disorders and deviations . (Prerequisite: three hours of psychology, excluding PSY 110.) Course Objectives From a social science perspective, this course seeks to inform students about the ways human beings experience and express themselves as sexual beings. Psychological, biological, and social perspectives on human sexual behavior will be presented to explore the rich diversity found in gender roles, sexual attitudes, and sexual behaviors and customs. Issues such as sexual health and making responsible sexual decisions will be considered. Critical thinking will be encouraged. Mode of Instruction This course will be taught using a variety of techniques including lecture, group discussion, multi-media presentations, in-class activities, and case studies. Students are encouraged to contribute daily to discussion via questions or comments. Learning objectives for each class period will be posted on-line, however lecture content and outlines will not be posted or otherwise distributed. Students are encouraged to take thorough notes in class.
