CHEM 4A Exam Three Review ***Although this exam isn’t actually cumulative, remember, chemistry builds on the skills you’ve learned from previous exams. That being said, you should be able to name compounds, determine the limiting reagent in a chemical reaction, write the products of a reaction including states of matter given the reactants, etc. These skills are assumed now and may be needed to solve problems on this and future exams.*** Things to know and be able to do for exam three… - Know the definitions of kinetic and potential energy. -Calculate kinetic energy, mass, or velocity given the other two. -Calculate PV work. -Remember, internal energy is enthalpy plus work or ΔU = ΔH – PΔV. -Also, w = - PΔV = - ΔnRT where Δn is the change in moles of gas in a reaction. -Know the definition of an extensive property, work, enthalpy, a thermochemical equation, heat, specific heat, heat capacity, a coffee cup calorimeter, a bomb calorimeter, and any other definitions discussed in class or in the textbook. -Be able to do calorimeter calculations with either a bomb or a coffee cup calorimeter.
