SAS 15-A05, April 13, 2010, Reflective Writing #2 Based on the readings and what I have learned in class AIDS originated in Africa a long time ago and was traced back to first being seen in monkeys. Many people accept today that AIDS is a descendant of the Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV) because certain strains of SIVs have a very close resemblance to HIV-1 and HIV-2, the two most common types of HIV. Another idea is that AIDS was passed through eating infected meats and handling the product so ferociously. Many people in Africa eat monkeys/chimps and when they are preparing them, they do not use gloves or any type of precautionary measure. This allows infected blood to spread to the humans as well as the infected meat that they are about to consume, therefore passing the virus along and keeping it alive for future generations. When I asked my friends about AIDS most of them had no idea where it came from. They told me that they believed the outbreak started in San Francisco around the 1980s. This is true for
