According to the homunculus, what areas of the body have the most cortical tissue dedicated to their sensation? o The areas of the body that have the most cortical tissue dedicated to their sensation would be the mouth/ lips and also the hands/ fingers. Where are your three tiny ear bones located? o The three tiny bones in the ear are located in the middle ear. The vibrations of the eardrum are transmitted inward by a mechanical chain made up of the three tiniest bones in our bodies (the hammer, anvil, and stirrup), known collectively as the ossicles. The ossicles form a three- stage lever system that converts relatively large movements with little force into smaller motions with greater force. The ossicles serve to amplify tiny changes in air pressure. All sensory systems of the human system—vision, touch, hearing, etc. What is sensation? o Is the process by which an organism responds to a stimulis. Energy contains information Depend primarily on sound, light, heat, and physical pressure. Types of sensation: 1. Vision 2. Hearing 3. Touch 4. Taste 5. Smell- Olfactory 6. Kinesthesis- System for sensing the position and movement of individual body parts. o Vestibular sense- Sense of body and movement and position, including balance. Why do your eyes quiver? o Eyes are constantly being reloaded and firing neurons therefore they are constantly moving back and forth. What is the difference between kinesthesis and vestibular senses? o Kinesthesis sense: is the system for sensing the position and movement of individual body parts. o Vestibular sense: is the sense of body movement and position including balance.
