Comm 160 notes- Thursday 4-15-10 Michel De Certeau (French man)- wrote “The Practice of Everyday Life”- it’s about theories of resistance -in this book there are operations of power: 1) Strategy : -actual power structures that are institutionalized- a norm, rule or law put in place -they stand in opposition to tactics (the way in which groups manipulate or use) – the way people create their own space in environments created by strategy. Also, a way to undermine the strategy. It is used in everyday life in order to refute the strategy. -tactics go back and forth between people and strategies (strategy and tactic can agree but sometimes they don’t)- they are employed by individuals. Two tactics can go back and forth but it can also be about tactics going back and forth between strategies. -you can only use a tactic when the opportunity is presented to you. Strategy set in place will never be challenged if the tactic is not used. -example of a strategy would be Kashif saying that when people are late they have to sing. Bri is
