Are the approaches proposed by Joe and his son proper approaches to the problem? Joe’s approach to offer incentives by marketing is a knee jerk reaction. He should analyze the problem before going for a solution. Joe’s other solutions of restructuring route-equipment combinations, or warehousing less urgent shipments are also “instant” unanalyzed fixes. Joe’s son has the right idea to involve members of the management team and staff to generate buy-in and take advantage of their unique knowledge. 3. If you were a consultant, what, if any, helpful suggestions would you make to Joe?
