Crime Theories and the 1999 Columbine School Shooting In April 1999 after a school shooting in Columbine High School in Colorado, criminal analysts and theorists began their research and investigations to try to determine the why behind the shooters. Could it be that Harris and Klebold, the two Columbine shooters based their decision to commit a crime with a rational and coherent mindset? Or, could it that their decision of committing a crime which lead to the school shooting was a result of their combination of biological and psychological traits? As science keeps on moving forward and enlightening society, the Columbine High School Shooting may have actually been a combination of physical and mental traits and the social environment that Harris and Klebold were part of, also known as the Biosocial Theory. The tragedy at Columbine High School can relate to the choice theory because Harris and Klebold’s attack back in 1999 was somewhat shaped by thought process, human emotions and influenced by social relationships (Siegel, 2018).
