Definition of Entrepreneurship The management of new venture creation ENT behaviors imply: Identifying valuable ideas and opportunities and creating ventures to exploit them This can be accomplished by: individuals, groups, organizations, networks ENT has been around since the beginning of time but research as a field is recent It is an emerging field Who are ENTs? Relevant traits and characteristics: Achievement motivated Creativity Decisiveness Strong work ethic Self-Confidence Risk-Taking Long-Attention span Optimistic Visionary Energetic Ambiguity tolerant Persuasiveness These traits are shaped by life experiences and prenatal predispositions Are ENTs Gamblers? Venture Creation involves high risks of failure About 30% within a year Only about 50% operate after 5 years ENTs are calculated risk-takers, not gamblers They increase their chances for success by doing good research on their field and competition
