LECT 6 ASSIGNMENT APPLICATION OF HARDY WEINBERG THEORY TO NATURAL POPULATIONS. To complete this assignment you must B. Read and work through LECT 6 C. Read Box 6.5 Using a variety of technologies from simple enumeration to molecular analyses the genotypes of individuals at specific loci in natural populations can be assessed. The first population genetics question one may ask given this type of data is: Do observed frequencies of genotypes fit the frequencies expected for a population in HW equilibrium? If the answer is “yes” then the alleles at the particular loci examined are in HW equilibrium. If the answer is “no” then the search for the evolutionary force that has resulted in the deviation from expected genotype frequencies is on. The following exercise will show you how this process works. Work through it to review your understanding of the use of HW and the use and interpretation of Chi-square tests of significance. Example:
