LDAP Connection module Text version 1.9 (May 2003) Roan Embrechts, University of Ghent ( roan.embrechts@ugent.be )  LDAP Connection module 1 Introduction 2 What is necessary for adding LDAP to Claroline? 3 Possible problems 4 Bugs 5 Using LDAP 1 Introduction The Claroline LDAP module provides a way to connect & communicate with LDAP servers. User authentication can happen through these servers, and some information about the users can be found there as well. Users who log in with their “ LDAP login and password” are automatically added to the Claroline database, with their email, first and last name, and statute (student or teacher). For security reasons the password is never stored in the Claroline database, it is checked against the LDAP server every time the user logs in. Instead of the real password, a placeholder password is stored in the Claroline database. It should never be allowed to log in with this password (this check is done in the code). For extra security, you should sent the passwords from the user to the server using a secure line ( https , this is a feature of the server, not of Claroline). A script is provided to keep the user info in the Claroline database up to date with the (authoritative) LDAP information. This package does not destroy the normal user accounts, they can be used just like before. It is
